Omnipotent Beloved

Omnipotent Beloved

Sonnet — Daily Poetry for The Master of Works #87

How many sneering hours are made my share
From the short lease lent in this dim hemisphere,
How many contemptuous moments yet remain
From the bushel of seconds named as mine?

What old ire of Thine casts its shadow here
Shrivelling my events to a wordless despair,
Old pacts only remain in some faded outline
Like time-worn murals forget their painted scene.

But the limbs gain vigour in worshiping gesture
And mind grows aglow with an aspiration-fire,
The heart throbs anew with remembered passion
And the soul soars over the unseen empyrean.

Is it to be thus, to the world denied, to be solely Thine,
An omnipotent Beloved with a jealousy all human?!
