Petulant Villain

Petulant Villain

Sonnet — Daily Poetry for The Master of Works #101

Treacherous are thy waters O time,
Littered with murderous eddies of desire
And storms of passion ruthless and dire,
Appears not on horizon one haven of calm.

Hast thou swallowed our starry dome,
Snuffed every hope glimmering afar
To feed thy glee that grows by our despair,
Oh of worldly villainy thou art the sole home!

Must thou ever bear a countenance grim
And bring down ever thy will to disfigure,
Ever thy consternation is on our dreams fair
And our pursuits noble and the nobler aim.

O petulant villain, act as thou art compelled most,
I yet bear hymns that shall echo from forgotten dust.
