O Monarch!

O Monarch!

O Monarch!

Poem

How many serenades dost Thou pour in the airs
Caressing my mute heart with redeeming touch,
Drawn down are the red flags of all my rebellions,
All I am is now to Thy feet submitted O Monarch!

All my plaints of tears and blood are now rescinded,
Withdrawn too protestations about Thy means,
I absolve Thy agency for all the anguish imposed,
How could I have known the ways of Thy graces!

For every denied embrace a hundred times over
Thou hath repaid, from each face Thou smilest
Kindling my heart to erupt in flames to flutter,
Like a virgin’s bosom keeps cherished coy secret!

How hast Thou turned this confinement solitary
Into this gleaming paradise of our rendezvous?
Where gone the gates and walls of the penitentiary?
My nights and days are now painted gold and blue!
