As You Will

As You Will

Poem

How gently you rock the cradle O Sire,
Such deft rhythm like a sonorous hum
Lulling my cries into a pleasant dream,
All promptly done after casting me in fire!

How sweet Thy gestures of hope to heart,
Arriving like cool rain in drenching waves
That our parched tongue in time saves,
After unerringly turning our feet to desert!

How lofty Thy muse’s subtly grand flights
Outwinging imagination’s free ranges
To pour some heaven-ink on our pages,
Only ’cause Thou didst rob all our sights!

How many limbs are Thine to embrace
Us upon the forlorn roads of Night
Where no fond familiar face is in sight,
After Thou decreed us to loneliness!

How many splendours are Thine really?
The archangels gossip to our eager ears
Of rose and nectar and heavenly apsaras,
But these accounts I surmise is not of Thee!

How many odes to Thy idylls sung
The marbled halls with ruby and amethyst,
Where souls aspire to dwell in content,
All because by Thee their hearts were wrung!

These fistful of words I add to Thy horde,
Do as you will O most sought Beloved.
