Sonnet — An Invocation to The Master #35

Unknowable they said Thou art,
Yet Thy method’s approach I have traced.
Thou art but resolutely petulant
To all my pleadings before Thee placed!

On the axis ends of me and Thee
Are fashioned the poles opposite?
Thine heaven, mine low country
For pitying glances an exhibit.

But in all frames Thine the burden
To cup my flame from blowing harm,
For pleading earth must stoop heaven
Lest a lesser view sully Thy name.

Embrace my night O Eternal Day,
Nought else remains in Thy conquering way.
