Persist

All was a puzzle and a heuristic without certitude,
Only the methodical weighing of many contraries.
Our lives plod on by memory’s web and brute fortitude,
Whereof the key that would unlock these mysteries?

A footnote faint is our life in Nature’s story,
Scripted by many hands but seldom our own.
A cold heart seems author, bereft of pity
Switches to thorn every measly crown.

But in this humdrum game, by a churn of will
Gathers a faint intensity of aspiring fire.
A flame is lit in the layered matrix still,
A miracle improbable as in a desert the zephyr.

All can and does fail, each stamped method;
But persist, there is no fall for all She has created.
