Beginnings
Poem — A Prayer to The Mother, on Day 2 of Navratri
Om.
We summon these for the Yagña.
Body is the altar. Swāha.
Cardinal directions for sentinels. Swāha.
Breath for conduit. Swāha.
Limbs for implements. Swāha.
Senses for ritual offerings. Swāha.
Mind for attendant witness. Swāha.
Aspiration-Fire for priest. Swāha.
Atman/Soul for yagña host. Swāha.
Hundred daemons for chorus. Swāha.
Sound the summoner conch. Swāha.
We begin. Swāha.
We hail Thee, O Womb-Primordial!
We hail Thee, O Maternal-Force!
We hail Thee, O Will-Fashioner!
We hail Thee, O Ordainer of Deeds!
We hail Thee, O Nourisher of souls!
We hail Thee, O Transmuter of Forms!
Ferry us O Benevolent One, from poise to poise, from realm to realm, till the apex of Thy feet.
May thus be our beginnings, may thus be our ends, may all our roads lead to Thee O Mother.
