Dreams of Thee

Dreams of Thee

Sonnet — An Invocation To The Master #381

What enormity hast Thou left behind
In this gigantic structure of new ideals
Dwarfing the strenuous peaks of old
Leaving our paltry strength breathless!

Who shall know the roads Thou hast trod
O’er unknown, unnamed spirit countries,
Thy flame like a mariner unspeakably bold
Sailing over soul-seas and spirit-oceans.

Camp with us by some sacred fire,
Tell us the tales of Thy adventures
With stubborn gods and demons eager
Now turned insignia on Thy banners.

At first break of dawn by Thy feet we’ll rest
And bear bright dreams of Thee through this night.
