Teach Me

Teach Me

Sonnet — An Invocation to the Master #328

Wilt Thou teach me to be not impulsive,
The trait that earns me much infamy,
To curb the gambler’s whim decisive
To hitch fates on a single throw dicey?

Thus it began on a day like this long ago
Our courtship born of Thy single sentence,
Like one infatuated my reason I did forego
And dreamed my futures in Thy presence.

A conspiracy was afoot and the trap set,
No god or daemon or titan did intervene,
Into Thy web of wonder I was lured and caught,
Now am left without a single night serene!

Teach me then to not be a hasty fool,
I shall have better days in Thy next cosmic cycle.
