Hear Now
Sonnet — An Invocation to the Master #285
Wither arrive these events like gloomy bearers
Who ride the maelstrom of fates bringing
Cloud-caskets brimming with pestilent fears
And on our unwary lives now downpouring.
Destiny unleashes thoughts like a hornet swarm,
A buzzing horde, a ruinous sting in their whispering,
Urging our hearts our faith to forthwith disarm,
Sneering, “Aye, aye, we speed thee to thy ruining!”
The tempest and the whirlwind howling collude,
Dire daemons riding rebellious rogue winds
Lay waste being’s fringes so fondly bound,
And all now seems a flattened expanse.
Hear now, the unnatural pause and hush,
Wrought by ruthless Time’s cruel brush.
