Sameness

Sameness

Sonnet — An Invocation to The Master #148

How varied art Thou in this multiplicity?
The rainbow stealing only hues seven,
The brooks giggling in their run sprightly
And pools placidly musing of heaven!

How many moods dost Thou bring
In cry and sorrow and mirthful tune,
In bird voices is Thy charming song
And their careless flight is Thy own!

How beauteous art Thou in banyan
A hundred root-legged behemoth
Lingering in place like an apparition
In dense green foliage of tangled growth.

Of all Thy variety I shall not tire,
Only Thou to adore my sameness I require!
