Withdraw Now
Sonnet — An Invocation to The Master #140
Oh how my heart leaps out to even Thy disguise,
Even in deformity and dullness art Thou present,
In utter negation pervades Thy splendour’s signs
Lurking like an irresistible beauteous beast!
How art Thou without mercy in dispensing joy
From every niche of sense, thought and feeling?
How many webs of delight dost Thou ply
To snare my unwary soul for Thy keeping?!
How dost Thou exceed every scale’s measure,
By what norms must I then recount
In speech and song of Thy vast treasure,
Oh my vocabulary is now fully spent!
Withdraw now Thy million rays of glory,
Alarm not my soul with too much beauty!
