Black Banners

Black Banners

Sonnet

How many villains dost thou harbour
In a fist-sized heart of flesh?
How many mutinous feelings to enmesh
The growing flame of soul’s ardour?

How many shames worm the breast
Under night’s all cloaking shroud?
How many deviances like a Titan proud
Stomping cloved feet in regions unblest?

How many appetites in festering gaze
That marks passage of every breath?
How many misshapen goblins in thought
That brew fumes of a poisonous maze?

These many black banners of infamy
Flutter across the fields of my memory.
