We Shall Banter

We Shall Banter

Poem

Choose then the trysting ground of truce,
A suspension of hostilities for common good.
Bring not godly courtiers and Thy ruse luminous
Nor too bright glory leaving our eyes blinded!

I bring Thy charter of aims for world and me,
A tattered manuscript I have long dwelt upon,
No single clause therein canst ever justify
This abject treatment of my condition forlorn.

What irk peeves Thee, what ill rankles?
Oh I bore no rebellious banner, nor chant,
Yet on me Thy regard completely dwindles
Perchance by some gesture mine insolent?

What could issue from this being of mine
Of mind and vital muted, of activity devoid,
Depleted by methods Thou didst enjoin
Upon my being that by Thy feet was poised.

Of what use Thy high and vast loneliness
Like some distant star unseen, ungazed,
Earned by refuting our small dear mores
Seated by Thyself in realms light blasted.

What holds Thy feet from our parleys
That must end with my deep supplication.
A little abandon Thy severe affinities,
Together to unravel a desirable solution.

Then we shall banter, Thou on radiant throne,
Me by Thy feet, of all Thy better eternities.
