Three Perfections

Three Perfections

Sonnet

A perfect poise to him chiefly in the body
Is in groan of muscle and stretching nerve sinewy.
In proportion of shape and elegance of motion
Are all the ingredients of physical’s perfection.

A perfect living to him chiefly in the vital
Are throughput of force for honour and valour.
In joy and sadness, in gain and loss
Are root and fruit of life’s endeavours.

A perfect ideal to him chiefly in the mental
Is to discover and know, making thought pivotal.
To think and imagine and dream make manifest,
Shaping vital and body and nature by this thought.

Perfect thy worship of these lower trinities,
Preparing for the Spirit’s utter rapidities.
