Lone Seer

Lone Seer

A Sonnet

Sri Aurobindo

A lone Seer of many sights peered through time
Pierced through mists of ignorance and varied clime
The chequered game of life and the future to be
Must be manoeuvred like a surgeon his surgery.

Nations to nudge, events like cauldrons of fate,
To brew an impossible alchemy upon this life slate.
On one side gods, men and the nether zone,
And on the other, He seated, unarmed and alone.

Like the Brahman He watched, impassionate
And aloof with a peace unstained and inviolate.
Summoned the missioned sons of eternity,
They who slay in compassion and deep pity.

Unarmed and unadorned, without pretence as He
They must labour for the worlds and the future to be.
