Beginnings
A Sonnet for Pongal/Sankaranthi/Lohri
Today it turns the cycle of planetary dance
To face once more our sphere to a Sun glance.
A yearly toil to a bountiful yield
Darkness at bay by Agni’s shield.
A procession of spheres around a blazing Sun
We mirror their motions in our daily turn.
Our lives are not divorced from the cosmic script
By ritual gestures all meaning we decrypt.
All life is a symbol to a truth behind
We see a sliver, to the whole blind.
A faith lords over common reason
The shining cord through turning season.
Align us O Divine to thy sacred dance
Leave us not to time and profane chance.
