Kāli

Kāli

O Thou Armed Night, Executrix and Mother dire
Goddess of destruction and an eternal fire.

Once I had Thee summoned
By a darkling verse grimly hymned.
Paltry the moments I had to wait
To sense Thy presence though out of sight.

A rich odour accompanied Thy presence
And a two yard room turned immense.
Crouched and seated on a low chair was I
No ritual or gesture save an open inner eye.

My words and mind all fell away
Space, time and little me in Thy sway!
Thou didst hold me by my tuft
Pulled my mind above ego and bodily cruft.

I walked dazed then to a shrine nearby
The Worlds fell silent to Thy dire lullaby.
Housed in stone, Thou wert seated there
For our approach, Thou who art everywhere.

Worlds tremble and the titan slinks at Thy approach
For Krishna and Thee no night too grim to encroach.
This world is thine, and too this dire play
In all Thou doest only hold me firmly I pray.
