This Day

Sonnet — Daily Poetry for The Master of Works #103

This day my wondrous sun withdrew
Behind this clay-wrought grosser sheath,
A world of pliant matter he did construe
With knowing light and will-bound breath.

There all forms bear a celestial hue
And senses extend to the soul’s breadth,
A light abides in cell and sinew
And the body framed for a luminous earth.

In each dawn our resolve doth renew
To bridge by surrender the unconscious depth,
We endure the trials of becomings untrue
For Thee who all redeeming pathways knoweth.

Raise us to the measure of Thy ways,
Render us apt for Thy unfailing grace.
