Many Betrayals

Many Betrayals

Sonnet — Daily Poetry for The Master of Works #10

The first betrayal were by the five senses
Bearing veils that obscured all reality,
Each of them bearing delusion’s daggers
And slashed away all hope of truth’s sobriety.

Then the betrayals two of heart and mind,
The twin schemers without any parallel,
Plotting my ruin in this twilight damned
With ambitions galore and desires unreal.

The sole sorest betrayal is of the soul yet,
That villain sans peer in my bosom borne
Who eschews real earth for the sublimest
That eludes reach of reason and aspiration.

What hope to me amidst such villainy
When Thou watchest it all so silently?!
