Thy Lila
Sonnet — An Invocation to the Master #320
Each life is as a season of the soul,
The warmth and cold, the heat and rain,
Making birth to death a fuller circle
Or a segment of life’s endless train.
How many earth-dawns for Thee endured
Like the shore endures relentless waves,
In all are only Thy assignations portrayed
Each chipping at this earth’s resistance.
Braved the dullness and incapacitations
Trading soul-flight for grounded tread,
Endured the loneliness and depredations
In lieu of oneness for Thy Lila forfeited.
By Thy command have we eschewed all virtues,
Yet remaining Thine us and our becomings.
