Quell This

Sonnet- An Invocation to the Master #261

What affront have I rendered Thee ever,
Did a human gesture conspicuously low
Slip out in throes of ignorance’s fever,
To Thine was I ever haughty and shallow?

Have I sullied Thy name amidst men,
Painted Thee in grey disrepute,
Thy ideals with graffiti blacken,
Or hold Thy will as irresolute?

Oh I have lunged, bare arms and will,
To all who uttered Thy name in vain!
For Thee I battle the barren hours still
To wrest a few words of lofty mien!

Quell this then our dispute’s season,
Or declare plain Thy silence’s reason!
