O Sovereign

O Sovereign

Sonnet — An Invocation to The Master #145

Oh I have rejoiced Thee in common hours,
The banal and lay moments of human way,
The toils expended and the spent sorrows
All have conspired to keep me in Thy stay.

Oh I have endured much to men strange,
The burdens and all the tribulations old,
Each every vileness from night’s range
That have filled my being to the last end.

All worship I have done, all low and high,
Filled heart chamber with humble piety,
Lit lamps of devotion in mine teary eye,
Oh the distances traversed for Thee!

All mine parts are now to Thee subject
O Sovereign absolute of my smitten heart!
