What Art Thou

What Art Thou

Poem

What art Thou O Sire,
Thoughtful sage, musing mystic, inspired seer?

To all Thou art unlike,
How doth Thou dwell here for our sake?

Whence is this memory
Of Thy remembrance occurring impossibly?

Thy single bosom feels
All the anguish and ardour and sorrow’s seals?

Seest Thou our pittance,
Through the clod and worm our emergence?

By every new birth
Thou doth remould this brown earth.

Am made and unmade
By daily revisions to Thy pristine shade.

What hope is mine
When only to Thyself Thou art known!

I am only by Thee,
Hence let me behold Thy mystery.
