You

You

Poem

What is despair, where is the final loss,
Our lives like canoes shudder at sea’s toss.

The swallowing wave, cloud reaching crest,
Are only manoeuvrings to Thy haven’s nest.

Were the tears in vain, our perennial frown,
If this the end bright, had we known?

A series of fine disasters lead to this spectacle,
Sum of many debacles lead to imminent miracle.

By many bodies emerges the fuller man,
By each varna fills out the human span.

By each prolonged life we have run a race,
Each leaping stride measured earthly pace.

By every loss endured the end we gained,
Through many heartaches earned love unbound.

Our deaths were many and anguishes too,
Through all these we arrive at feet of You.
