Body’s Prayer
A Sonnet
Courtesy Priti Ghosh
I, matter’s frame and base of life and mind,
For Consciousness to be tangible have descended.
The early dreams of god I do portray,
Capture by my living flesh His scattered ray.
The Earth my mother has fostered me
Nurtured by her elements elementary.
I house the savage and the brute,
By me too the monarch and the infant.
My dreams are marred by ancient fears and ills,
Time’s ticks mark their passage on my pores.
Yet by the dreamer and sage am shunned,
My mute fidelity to His will maligned.
I, body, do now invoke, a prayer unlike any before,
By Thee I am, and become all for Thee, now and evermore.
Note: Offered to the Divine Mother, on Day 9 of Navaratri 2019, by Kali’s Brood and Murli R.
