Solitary Heart

A Sonnet

Amidst the innumerable circlings of life,
The deafening clamour and constant strife.
Drowning the whisper of a seeking true,
Forever condemned to the stifling groove.

How loom the shadow colours ominous,
And the vast confluence of many powers.
Shapes and hopes that come and pass,
Indifferent to worm and hero and the stars.

O Mystery, intricately incarnate in us and all,
By what chant or mystic spell do we call?
The mind is dazed and the nerves in stupor,
Our ardour is doused and the will only vapour.

But one stands yet, the emptied solitary heart,
That loves in the void for its divine counterpart.
