Thy Impulsion
Sonnet — An Invocation to The Master #235
All now takes the semblance of a dream;
All the passions that once were precious
Now unclasped from desire’s realm
And so fade the common human values.
Virtue’s pretence and vice’s indulgence
Both much too vainglorious are,
One by a self-vouched vanity starves
And other given to a gluttony’s care.
Oh what doctrine can hope to include
All the needs of a soul’s eternal quest,
For a law goes stale when it’s made
Into an inflexible and universal edict.
Now am redeemed from the slavehood of man,
For am propelled by Thy singular impulsion.
