Best Of Me
Sonnet — An Invocation to The Master #158
Is there a brighter throne in heaven
Than my heart that for Thee is kept?
Who the daemons of celestial ken
Can match my ardours for Thee apt?
Oh they but roam Thy light fields
Like cattle all content in their reverie,
But here in mire I make a paradise
For Thee to dwell in regality.
Mind not the tatters that surround
And make my form seem lowly,
For my song is both subtle and bold
To sing of Thee and Thy glory.
But savour my heart and Thou shalt see
That the best of me was always Thee!
