O Soul

O Soul

Sonnet

Row, row O soul through time’s waters treacherous,
Be not dismayed by the wave’s tremendous crash,
Heed not the sharp hail nor loud storms harsh,
Only yield ear to thy Captain who thy ship helms.

Battle, battle O soul each turn of day and night,
Through each season of thought and feeling
War by thy will for a light the soul must bring,
Summon all heart and nerve to this thine fight.

Become, become O soul a little of His purpose,
Transmute the grain of time to a shining pearl,
Upon denuded earth thy love’s banner unfurl,
Sound all these gulfs with His mirth luminous.

Revel, revel O soul upon thy charter bold and joyous,
Lend thy body and mind to be His bridge to the heavens.
