One-Eyed Prophet

One-Eyed Prophet

Sonnet

Such an one-eyed prophet am saddled with,
Always an eager sermon upon his lips
Or breaks monotony with a few parables
Cautioning my being in every breath.

I wonder in which school of little reason
He was tutored, what lesson half-blind
From the dull tracts of time has gathered
Forever warning of venturing near the Sun.

This wilful author of profuse tragedy
Inventing a woe a minute without rest,
Dogs my hours with his dirgeful best
With pathos and mournful melancholy.

Mute then Sire, this one-eyed prophet,
I tire of his proverbs and psalms of regret.
