Guard O Soul

Guard O Soul

Poem

Guard O soul the plots of our mutiny;
Pass through ambition gates without a word,
Linger not in taverns of ease
Or seek in coarse laughter thy aid.
In narrow alleyways of high musing
Secluded by a moon cloaked hour
We shall dwell on the dangers
That mark the passage to our epiphany;
Sloth, that enervating beast, must be slain
By thy will and ensuing action mine.
Doubt the profaner, we shall bar from counsels
Of thought and ear and heart.
The gates of ego we shall unbar,
Nay, let us shatter those even from memory.
And what of thought? Oh that good natured aid,
Now of little utility besides our rich silence,
Whom we must befriend more for musings abundant.
Who else O soul, who else must we seek aid from?
Ah, I remember!
Time and God; Time, the riper of all things God has made. And God, in whose Will is all fruition!
