Achilles

Poem (a Fragment)

Achilles killing Hector by Rafael Tajeo, 1875

The fleet of our ships sailing the Aegean blue,
The strength of our arms and stroke of the oars
In each rounding motion sowing ruin of a nation.
Mine the first feet on the burning sands of Troy,
My gaze bounded the famed ramparts mighty.
The lore of my spear ever whispered in fear,
The stout of our legs and the wall of our shields
Sent a shudder rippling through those asian fields.
The dirge of widows of slain enemy heroes
Add fuel to flame burnishing my immortality.
For I am the wrath of Greece, named as Achilles.
