The Jeweller

Sonnet

From each day I mined a nugget of glittering gold,
Fruit of mind’s pick-axe thought ever hammering
By many a old and new invented gesture’s round,
Drawing from each moment their buried meaning.

At the closing of dusk I gathered my sweaty gain,
And made way to severe offices of the Editor bright,
He surveyed and said, “Yet there is the dust of pain
And raw ore of desire that mars the soul by sight.

Renew thy labour in tomorrow’s repeating dawn,
I extend by a day the lease of thy human time,
Seek again the gold unalloyed, a victory yet unwon.”
I returned to my camp on Night’s calling chime,

Brooding over scheme and charter to be repeated,
To hammer by aspiration until the high seat is attained.

Where is He

Where is He

Poem — An Invocation to The Master #18

Where is He, you ask, my Sire?
Oh it is He who lends hue to fire!
It is He who from flower smiles,
That skirts thy roads of human miles.
In the butterfly He doth rest
Landing softly on a rose’s breast.
In every wing His thought doth fly
In vine shrinking like a damsel coy.
The marvel to a wondering gaze,
Dimpled cheek on a beauteous face.
He is love that alights in heart,
The radiant curve of divine art.
He is patience vast in Nature,
The splendorous sun beyond compare.
He is light illumining my mind
And will that to Him doth bind.
The far drifting galaxy
Is but a chapter of His memory.
Of me is He origin and end,
By this life I run His errand.
All fortunes the fates can bring,
A single note of His music can’t sing.
Here, now and forever
Stands the glory of my Sire!
